Dog friendly cafes in Christchurch
Christchurch is becoming increasingly more dog friendly, and now has a number of dog friendly cafes where our pups are allowed indoors. Whether you're a local or just passing through, you'll find plenty of spots to enjoy a cup of coffee and a tasty treat alongside your pup. Here are some of our favourite dog friendly cafes near the city centre.
Six Ounces - Merivale
Nestled amongst the shops on Papanui Road in Merivale, Six Ounces is a dog-friendly cafe that serves up some of the best coffee in Christchurch, courtesy of Rad Roasting Co coffee (seriously, I had not had coffee that good in a long time!). Open during the day and some evenings, this cafe is perfect for a morning tea, lunch, and a relaxed evening out. Dogs are warmly welcomed inside at all times, where they can even lounge on the couches. There are a variety of snacks for your dog, including bully sticks, and on warmer days you can treat your pup to some Cocomutt Ice Cream. If you can't find a seat in this busy cafe, don't fret! You can head around the corner to Sprig and Fern or No.4 Bar and Restaurant, which are also dog friendly spots.
Scoundrel - Christchurch CBD
Owned by the same team behind Six Ounces, it's no wonder Scoundrel is dog friendly too! Located on the fringe of the CBD in a converted warehouse, Scoundrel offers a laid-back vibe - check out Loki lounging on a chair in the photo above! The human menu includes delicious tacos and garlic flatbread, complemented by a range of great tap wines. For your dog, Scoundrel offers treats from Best for Pets, a local business specialising in raw, unprocessed dog food. And if you're a coffee lover, you'll be pleased to know that Rad Roasting Co Coffee is roasted right here. The cafe is often bustling with dogs chilling alongside their owners, and the staff are always welcoming and helpful.
Hello Sunday - Sydenham
A weekend brunch hotspot, Hello Sunday next to The Colombo in Sydenham is proudly dog friendly. The brunch menu is pretty unique, and you can even enjoy a cheeky brunch cocktail with your meal. One of the highlights of this cafe is the private rooms that provide a quiet spot in this busy establishment. Make sure to book in advance if you’d like one of these cosy spaces so your dog can spread out on the floor while you brunch with friends. One of the co-owners, Ashleigh Moir, is a boss babe who we follow on TikTok and love - we are all for supporting dog mums who own businesses! And yes, they offer puppaccinos for your pup too.
Christchurch is becoming one of the most dog-friendly cities in New Zealand, with an array of cafes that cater to both humans and their dogs. So, leash up your pup and head out to explore these fantastic spots - you and your dog are in for a treat!
