Ways to spread kindness in the dog community

Pink Shirt Day is a powerful reminder that kindness costs nothing, but means everything. While it's a day dedicated to taking a stand against bullying, we believe it's also the perfect time to reflect on how we can make our little corners of the world — and our dog-loving communities — a little brighter. Because if there's one thing dog mums, dads, and pups know how to do well, it’s spreading joy. In honour of Pink Shirt Day this week, here are some sweet (and simple) ways to spread kindness in the dog world.

Compliment another dog parent

Ever admired someone’s gorgeous pup, clever harness setup, or how well-behaved their dog is at the café? Tell them! A genuine compliment can make someone’s day — and it reminds us that this community is full of good humans doing their best. Whether it's at the dog park, a local walk, or even in a social media comment, a kind word is always appreciated. Your compliment might be the highlight of someone’s week — and hey, you might even make a new friend.

Donate to a rescue

Got some unopened treats your dog didn’t vibe with? Outgrown accessories? A few spare dollars? Rescues are always in need of donations, tangible and intangible. Whether you drop off some goodies or make a small donation, it goes a long way. Even sharing a rescue’s social media post helps spread awareness. Better yet, volunteer your time — many shelters would love an extra pair of hands for walking, cuddling, or cleaning. Every little bit helps, and your kindness could change a pup’s life. We personally love to support Dogwatch and SNIP.

Support small dog brands

As a small business ourselves, we can tell you how much it means when someone places an order, shares a kind review, or tags us in a photo. Supporting indie dog brands helps grow our vibrant community and keeps the passion alive. You don’t always need to make a purchase to show support — a share on your story, a photo of your pup rocking their gear, or recommending a small biz to a friend makes a huge impact. Behind every brand is a dog mum or dad doing a happy dance when you choose them.

Share positive words online

The internet can be a tricky place, but it’s also a space where kindness can shine. Leave a positive comment or thank someone for sharing their dog’s story. Connection starts with kindness. If you see someone posting about their senior dog, their rescue journey, or even a training struggle — take a second to cheer them on. These moments matter. Your encouraging words might be exactly what that person needed to keep going, and it fosters a stronger, more supportive dog-loving community.

So this Pink Shirt Day, let’s lead with love — just like our dogs do every day. It’s not about big gestures or grand declarations (although we’re always here for a dog in a pink bandana). It’s about choosing kindness in the small moments, being a good pup parent, and creating a world where everyone feels safe and included. Be the person your dog thinks you are.
